jozi art:lab moves to new space at Arts on Main

Since May 2010 the Sylt Foundation kunst:raum sylt quelle has a new home in downtown Johannesburg, in the Arts on Main complex in Doornfontein. The jozi art:lab, a dependence of the Sylt Foundation, will present exhibitions, performances, theatre, music, dance, talks and discussions on cultural and scientific subjects.

“We are happy to share this beautiful new space with the jozi dance:space, where renowned South African dancer Itumeleng Mokgope works with his company and offers dance classes as well as with Sandile Ngidi and his literary agency ‘Talk to me’”, emphasizes Indra Wussow, director and curator of the jozi art:lab, who started the foundation kunst:raum sylt quelle roughly a decade ago.

“We want to encourage artists who are working experimentally. With science, you try to understand inherent patterns – art is another approach; without measuring things it wants to make the invisible visible, uncover hidden aspects of society and the human conditions. Our new location in Arts on Main will be a space of discovery”, Indra Wussow explains.

The event space will be open to writers, artists, dancers, film makers and composers – and to people or institutions, who want to rent this place for their presentations or happenings.
