Language eludes both private and public property and at the same time is a mediator between internal and external, idea, body, movement, action and expectation. The exhibition links space, body and meaning through finding oneself in transitional states of mind, oscillating between personal experience and its representation.

"Figures of Speech" is part of the artist exchange project "Beyond Language", curated by Eva Seufert and Fouad Asfour in collaboration with the Dead Revolutionaries Club, between South Africa and Germany. During the exhibition at Arts on Main, other discursive events, workshops and interventions will take place at the Hector Pietersen Museum Kliptown Centre in Soweto, Keleketla! Library at Drill Hall in Johannesburg, and the Polokwane Art Centre.

"Beyond Language" is funded by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen IfA and the Senat Berlin.
