All BUA FELA SOWETO, Kgafela oa Magogodi (stand-up poet and musician) performs with a live band at the Battery Centre in Kliptown. Saturday 18 April, 2009, 6 p.m. The open air show is a precursor for a tour, which features young live bands and stand-up poets in various performing artists from Soweto and beyond.
Kgafela’s band is peopled by an assortment of young experimental musicians from various parts of the country. Xolisa “Diva” Nwebani is a budding jazz vocalist from Gugulethu. Ntokozo Skhosana is a young afro-jazz pianist and music teacher from Mpumalanga. Both Diva and Ntokozo are part of the recording of BUA FELA(2008), Kgafela’s album of music and spoken word, which is making waves, especially across youth culture.
The live outfit is completed by Xolani Mtshali(drums), Kabelo Seleke (Saxophone, and vocals) Kataki Thoka (Bass), Tshediso Setshogwe(Vocals and percussions) and Lebogang Thebeage (percussions).
