South African artists on Sylt

Deep impressions

When South African artist Paul Emmanuel
left Rantum in the beginning of Juny after a stay of four weeks, something of him stayed on Sylt. Behind the windows of the production hall there you can see parts of his installation "The Lost Men". Long panels of voile show photographs of different parts of his body, on his skin are blind embossed the names of soldiers who died in military conflicts. Another part of his very special, fragile way of putting up a memorial was floating in the north sea wind during summer time. The panels were hung on lines tied between poles on the grassland behind the Sylt-Quelle buildings.
"Deutsche Welle TV"
did a film about Pauls stay on Sylt.
